• Veetee Rice was founded in North London by entrepreneur Moni Varma, after family-run rice farms in India influenced Moni to sell rice to the UK market.

1992 - 1993

  • From humble beginnings, Veetee’s first rice mill was purchased and included just 2 silos, enabling Moni to take in unmilled brown rice which has a lower European import duty. The rice was then milled on site to make white rice.  The milling capacity in 1992 was approximately 15,000 tonnes per annum.
  • Veetee Rice moves to new premises and their current base in Rochester, Kent with a purpose built riverside facility and a milling capacity of 50,000 tonnes per annum.
  • Veetee establishes a factory in India in order to gain a physical presence in the country where much of the harvested rice was grown.

  • A seed project was established, involving seed distribution with a buy-back arrangement to encourage and support local farmers.
