Rice is one of the most produced cereals in the world by volume
and will mean different things to different people. Just as
culture and geography define communities, the same can be said for
this humble grain. Different plants, growing conditions and
regions produce different rice grains, all unique in their
characteristics and uses.
The exceptional Basmati rice grain can only be grown
in selected regions of India and Pakistan. Our
specialist procurement teams buy the rice directly from the farmers
during the annual harvest between October and December to
ensure authenticity, the best quality at competitive prices.
Basmati is at its best once it has been allowed to mature, as this
enables the natural characteristics of the grain to develop.
The trading conditions for Long Grain rice are slightly
different, and although the main harvests are important, the grain
can be grown in different countries which have different harvest
times. Through our contacts in each key growing region, we
are well placed to competitively source and supply the finest
quality Long Grain rice.
Other rice varieties, which although do not account for the same
volume as Basmati and Long Grain, are still important and have a
vital role to play in the world rice market. For example Thai
Jasmine, Risotto and Paella rice have their own individual
qualities and therefore need to be managed in a different ways to
enhance their unique properties.
