Ashoka Basmati

Vasumati, or Basmati as it's known today is the undisputed 'Queen of Rice'.  In ancient Sanskrit text 'Vas' means aroma.  Basmati is known for its long and elegantly thin grains before cooking and highly aromatic, elongated, fluffy and separate grains on gentle cooking.

There is only one place on Earth where Basmati can be grown - the foothills of the Himalayas.  Nurtured by the unique soil, nourished by the melting glaciers and hand tended by dedicated farmers.

We consider ourselves 'custodians' of Basmati. There is only one crop a year. We develop it in partnership with farmers, guard it with our life, mill it with care, age it to maturity and serve it with love.
